Why do some poeple like JOKES and others don't?

I ask this, because I love jokes, but people always say, "I'd never think you were the TYPE who'd like jokes."

I don't know what this MEANS. Like, what type does it take? What's not to like about jokes? Are joke lovers and joke tellers DIFFERENT or something?

Do people say this to those of you who also like jokes? Why?

A sense of humor, or lack of it, I believe defines an individual and a society. I think some people have no sense of the ridiculous - or perhaps it threatens them. They are too ridiculously paranoid to be able to see the joke and laugh. I think the Irish (my maternal Grandpa was one) have lived under threat so long it no longer alarms them and they detoxify it with laughter. Other traditions (like my paternal Arab Grandpa) see the joke more in stories carrying unexpected insight, than in the returning boomerang - but it is still based in recognizing the ridiculous, in humans at large, and best of all, one's self. But that requires some confidence, too. So I think typical American humor of "one-liners", always directed externally with no or little irony, reflects that society's basic lack of confidence - and perhaps a culture of defensive aggression. Similarly, Jewish humor seems often built around the role of victim. And so it goes on .... Good question.

some people lack a sense of humor and they need to get off here.
I'm always silly and have always loved jokes. I don't surprise anyone by liking jokes!
I havent gotten that before. They might say that because they think you are serious. But IDk
i have a few friends who are obviously smart enough to understand my jokes but i think they lack a sense of humor.
maybe they think of you as a serious person or something? ...........

I think most people who don't like jokes are too stupid to understand them.

I noticed the more serious a person is the less they like/get humor
the ones who dont like jokes probably dont have a sense of humor
Jokes are some kind of an ingredient that makes life "deliciously" awesome. The people who like jokes outnumber those who don't...In a way, the people who laugh outweigh those who grouch.

In our lives where problems and difficulties almost always smog the brighter sides of us, we look for solutions and outlets that could somehow, for a moment, lift up our spirits and make us unconscious of time passing. We hear jokes, and we smile in private, or laugh with our hearts. They're made to whistle "time out" from the humdrum of our days.

Ooooh jokes,..how I love them.

Pity to those who miss half of their life by not being able to understand the wisdom of jokes!
There is a time for everything and some people do not know the difference between them...
